St. Mirren put on dominant display in Paisley against a Ross County that side that has gone a little astray of late, when Lewis Morgan struck past the keeper on the thirty third minute.

County were poor in the first half, but their second half performance could easily have stolen a point from St. Mirren, who should have done more with the possession and chances created.

The match started tamely for both sides, that was until County lost possession and the ball found its way out to Paul McMullen on the wing. McMullen then delivered a nice ball into the penalty area for Jaison McGrath, but was denied by a great save from Staggies keeper Mark Foden.

The big keeper was called into action moments later, when Cameron Howieson headed on goal and Foden got himself down to marshal round the post.

McMullan was creating havoc for St. Mirren out on the wing, but showed some fantastic footwork when he took the ball round five players and then laid on for McGrath, unfortunately his ten yard strike went high. McGrath then turned provider for McMullan, when he cut the ball inside and the shot was hit straight at Foden from twelve yards.

County were finding the going tough, and it got tougher still when Howieson made a great run through the centre before touching outside for Lewis Morgan, who was able to slot past the big County keeper from fifteen yards, 1-0. Minutes later, Morgan then sent a stray shot over the cross bar from ten yards.

County had been notable by their absence in the first half, but almost redeemed themselves on the thirty ninth minute. The ball found its way to defender Stephen Miller twenty five yards from goal, he planted his boot and sent a fizzing strike across the surface of the grass and inches wide of the Buddies goal.

St. Mirren got the second half underway after McMullan sent the ball toward the near post for McGrath to head over from close range. The home side then wound the pressure up, Foden saved a close range shot from Howieson, who then had a second attempt blocked before the ball found its way out for Luke Conlon, who had to watch Foden match his strike with a magnificent save.

Ross County began to display a determination about their play, whilst still playing second fiddle to the Buddies. St. Mirren cleared their lines from a County attack and the ball fell the way of James Ross, he kept his twenty yard shot on target, but Dan Wilks saved.

Chris McLaughlin then sent the ball long from the County half, Tom MacLennan rose and brought the ball under control with an outstretched foot, but a great chance was squandered when he sent over the cross bar.

Another chance came shortly afterwards, Ross MacIver received the ball and raced forward to the edge of the penalty area, where he unleashed a powerful shot on the St. Mirren goal. The quality of shot was again matched by the magnificent outstretched arm of the diving Dan Wilks.

St. Mirren’s Mark Morrison made a storming run from defence and down the right hand side of the pitch, struck from twenty five yards for Foden to save, but the ball rolled for Lewis McLear who struck wide of the post from ten yards. St. Mirren won a late free kick five yards outside the County penalty area, Howieson stepped up and curled the ball around the wall and struck the post.
