Two goals in the second half by St.Peter’s settled a contested affair between both schools after a low-key first half. Going into the game, Holyrood and St.Peter’s were looking to book a place in the final against either Ross High School or Abronhill High School who play each other a week today.

The game got off to a flying start as both teams tended to go for counter attacking football instead of keeping possession, St.Peter’s were first off the mark, with Ryan Forrester trying his luck from just outside Holyrood’s penalty area but his shot went well wide of the goal. Just thirteen minutes into the match, St.Peter’s were awarded a free-kick outside the area, with Liam Deane taking the duty of whipping the ball into the area. As the ball was sent over, Craig Cowan tried to go for a first time shot, his shot was blocked by the Holyrood defence but the ball came out to St.Peter’s again and Ryan Forrester again tried his luck from distance but his shot went well wide of the goal.

A minute later however, St.Peter’s were forced to defend a counter attack by Holyrood as Kieran Lynch ran down the left and played in Jamie Gillan who managed to go one on one with Scott Wright in the St.Peter’s goal, but he managed to just over hit the ball and it went out for a goal kick. However, St.Peter’s should have taken a minute later with what would have been goal of the game. Mikey Hopkins ran down the centre of the pitch with the ball at his feet as he made his way into Holyrood’s half, he picked out Ryan Forrester down the right who ran down to the by-line before whipping a brilliant cross as the ball came in, Hopkins had ran from the centre of the pitch into the box but his shot was hit straight towards the keeper who first spilled the shot but in the end managed to grasp onto the ball.

From there on, both teams didn’t disappoint as they kept trying to go for the game’s first goal. On the eighteenth minute, Holyrood nearly managed to do that, Louise Clark stayed up field near the St.Peter’s defence, as the ball was played into him by his team mates, the ball somehow managed to bounce over St.Peter’s defence and allowed Louis to go one on one with Scott Wright in the St.Peter’s goal but his shot was went straight into the keeper’s arms.

As time went on, both team’s couldn’t find the game’s first goal. On the twenty-sixth minute, from a resulting corner to St.Peter’s Ryan Forrester whipped in the ball into the area which resulted in Mikey Hopkins seeing his header smack the frame of the goal. However, on the thirty-fourth minute, St.Peter’s counter attack paid off as they went into the lead. St.Peter’s were awarded a corner on the thirty first minute which David Seagrave took, as the ball arrived in the area, no one managed to pick up Calum Campbell who scored with a bullet header into the roof the net to give his team the lead at the break.

Half Time: Holyrood Secondary 0 - 1 St.Peter the Apostle High School

The second half started just as brightly as the first with both teams avoiding on keeping the ball but instead wanting to go on to the counter as they looked to book a place in the final. Just ten minutes into the second half, Holyrood were back pedalling in to their own half as St.Peter’s went on the counter, Mikey Hopkins this time trying his luck from 25 yards out but his shot was somehow parried by Ryan Hay as the ball managed to bend a lot as it approached the goal, Thomas Bowes managed to clear the ball to safety.

However, Mikey Hopkins did manage to score a goal just over three minutes later with a low sweet volley into the bottom right hand corner. Christopher Dooley from the right whipped the ball to the back post of Holyrood’s goal and Hopkin’s managed to hit it first time into the bottom right hand corner. Seven minutes later Hopkins again tried his luck from long range but Ryan Hay in the Holyrood goal parried the ball away.

As the game approached full time, Holyrood nearly pegged a goal back, substitute Jay Hudson going on a run past two players, but as he approached the St.Peter’s goal, he was closed down by Scott Wright in the St.Peter’s goal who was equal to the shot.

In the end, the game ended with St.Peter’s winning a really evenly contested match and booking their place in the final as they wait the winner of Ross High School and Abronhill High School.
