Holyrood Secondary Seniors

Competition: SSFA Shield Round 4
Venue: Toryglen

St. Peter the Apostle HS met West Region rivals Holyrood Secondary, in a highly anticipated Scottish Shield tie at Toryglen. Another West Region derby was at stake in the last sixteen, with the winner hosting Renfrew HS or Bannerman HS.

St Peters took the lead in the 21st minute when the ball was crossed to the back post and number Martin Todd slotted away with composure to put his side in front.

The lead was doubled before half time courtesy of a stunning 35 yard free kick from Alan Cairns.

Half Time: St. Peter the Apostle HS Seniors 2-0 Holyrood Secondary Seniors

Holyrood started the strongest in the second half and could have pulled a goal back immediately but for a fine save from goal keeper Sean Toye.

However, the deficit was reduced in the 80th minute as Ryan McPhillips tucked the ball away from the penalty spot.

Boosted by the goal Holyrood proceeded to send wave after wave of attack on the Saints goal but it was to no avail and the best chance fell to St Peters on the break, in the final minute, but a fine save from Josh Goldfarb ensured the score remained 2-1.
