A few months after Celtic's Under 19 double success against Manchester City, the younger academy prospects have triumphed against some of the top youth sides in England.
Celtic FC Under 15s participated in the Nike Cup, held at Warwick University, Coventry. The young Hoops were matched against West Ham United, Bolton Wanderers, Stoke City and Chelsea in the group stages - progressing to the quarter finals alongside Chelsea.
The knock out stage results were:
Celtic FC 2-0 Newcastle United FC
Celtic FC 2-0 Liverpool FC
Celtic FC 0-0 Chelsea FC (Celtic win on penalties)
Head of Youth, Chris McCart, told the Celtic FC official website: "This is a great achievement and congratulations go to the boys and their coaches for all the hard work they´ve put in to achieving this success. It´s a measure of the quality we have at our Youth Academy that we were invited to take part in the Nike Cup, and that we also managed to win the tournament, particularly since we were competing against the top English youth sides at that age group."
He continued: "Michael O´Halloran, the Under-15s´ head coach, has told me that all the players were tremendous throughout the tournament. Their performances impressed everyone who watched them, and their conduct both on and off the park was a credit to Celtic Football Club. We´re all delighted at this success, and it´s another great experience in their ongoing football education at Celtic."
