Competition: Glasgow Cup - Final
Venue: Ibrox Stadium
Date: 16/04/2012

Rangers recaptured the Glasgow Cup from their closest rivals, to lift the trophy for the 3rd time in 4 years. The match went right to the wire with the sides deadlocked after 90 minutes, before the Gers held their nerve at the penalty shoot out which followed.

With just a couple of minutes on the clock the first chance fell the way of the visitors. A set piece fell to the feet of Eoghan O'Connell, but he couldn't convert from close range.

Rangers had their chances, but nothing clear cut. A long range effort from Darren Ramsay was as close as they came in the opening half hour.

The next glaring chance for Celtic fell to Denny Johnstone, who should have converted the rebound after Lewis Kidd's effort had hit the woodwork.

Rangers came back into the game before the break and Charlie Telfer was presented a chance from Danny Stoney's cross, but was crowded out.

The half time whistle blew, with the sides still deadlocked.

After going 45 minutes without a goal, a couple came within the first few minutes of the second half. The Hoops took the lead through Paul McLellan but Ramsay levelled just two minutes later to make it 1-1.

Both sides had their chances to win the tie during the regulation 90, Jamie Burrows heading wide and Andy Murdoch forcing an excellent save from Jordan Hart.

At the other end, Johnstone couldn't find the net from a header, nor a shot, in a couple of frustrating minutes for the Celtic youngster.

The full time whistle blew, and the match went straight to penalty kicks.

Liam Kelly saved Jack Kirwan's opening penalty, giving Rangers the advantage. Tom Walsh, Telfer, Fraser Aird and Dylan Dykes all netted for Rangers, as did McMullan and Kidd for Celtic.

Meaning Jamie Lindsay had to score to keep Celtic in contention, but his effort went over the bar, meaning Rangers lifted the 2012 Glasgow Cup.
