Under 14's GADYFL League Cup
Milngavie continued their winning start to the League Cup campaign with a long awaited victory over local rivals Arsenal which was more comfortable than the score line suggested. They went in at the break 2 goals ahead and were unlucky not to increase that lead in the second period.

The first chance fell to the boys in blue on 14 minutes when William Fleming laid the ball off for Aiden Young on the edge of the box but the shot with his weaker left foot trickled harmlessly into the keeper's grasp. Scott Simpson then blasted a free kick from distance wide of the post on 16 minutes before dragging a shot from the edge of the box wide a few minutes later.

He was to be heavily involved though when Milngavie forged ahead on 25 minutes, playing a good one-two with Fleming before lifting lifting the ball over the defence to the incoming Nathan Carmichael who superbly lobbed the onrushing goalkeeper for 1-0.

The lead didn't last long though and Arsenal found an equaliser just shy of the half hour mark when their winger cut in from the left hand side and rifled a shot high into the net past Jamie Forrester. Milngavie instantly set about regaining their lead and within 2 minutes they were creating chances again. Mitchell Duffy did well to beat his man on the right before sending a cross into the box which went all the way to Ben Jenkins arriving at the back post but his first time effort cleared the bar comfortably.

Wanderers deservedly retook their lead though in the last minute of regulation time with a wonderfully well worked goal: Simpson was again at the heart of the move, jinking into the box from the right before playing the ball out wide where Carmicheal put a perfect first time cross into the box and although Fleming's header rebounded off the bar, the follow up fell kindly for Duffy to volley home from a yard out.

They weren't done there though and deep into added time at the end of the first half they had another when Fleming played a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of Nathan Carmichael who calmly side-footed past the keeper for his second of the game to end the half in the perfect manner with Milngavie 2 goals to the good.

They then started the second half as they ended the first, setting about putting the game beyond the visitors. Fleming had the first sight of goal 3 minutes after the restart as he burst through on goal but he dragged his shot wide and 5 minutes later, Simpson's corner kick was headed past the post by Jack Carson.

Despite this positive start it was Arsenal who were next to score on 54 minutes in similar circumstances to their first, blasting the ball in off the bar from a tight angle. The rest of the game though was one-way traffic with Milngavie creating numerous chances to put the game to bed: Simpson, who was involved in almost all of the team's attacking play throughout the 70 minutes, found substitute Adam Greenlees with a good ball up the park but he blazed his effort over the bar.

Daniel Cairney then laid off Rory McInnes who in turn played in Greenlees again but his shot was stabbed just wide of the post. It looked like the killer 4th goal was finally going to come 3 minutes into stoppage time when Simpson was fouled at the end of a surging run just outside the box. Ben Jenkins stepped up to take the resulting free kick but it rebounded off the crossbar in the game's last incident of note and Wanderers held out for the win and a vital 3 points to cement their position at the top of their group.

Milngavie are now in pole position to progress to the final with one game remaining against Celtic Boys Club knowing that a good result in that game will see them through. Before that though there is the small matter of Sunday's final league game against Arsenal again which presents them with an opportunity to end their league campaign unbeaten.
