Jimmy Johnstone Academy
Rossvale BC
U15's Glasgow & District YFL
28 May 2014
Rossvale Squad: Grant, Hayden, Lyons, Ryan, Stefan, Gibby, Brandon, Alistair, Burns, Benji, Michael
Subs: Paddy, Liam, Bulloch, Chris, Joe
The game started off with Rossvale knowing that in the previous two meetings they had been well beaten by a very good and confident team.
The game was fairly even in the first half although chances were more open for vale as a great bit of play from Benji, taking a touch and turning and hitting a shot from 30 years with the ball crashing off the top of the bar and the academy keeper well beaten.
Academy didn’t open Vale up that much except for a few crosses that were dealt with quite reasonably by the keeper and the defence.
Half Time: Jimmy Johnstone Academy 0-0 Rossvale BC
After a good team talk, Rossvale took the game to academy in the second half and opened them up with chances falling to Benji, which were saved by the keeper.
The goal did come from Robbie Burns with great work on the right wing with Gibby taking the ball, beating an opponent and crossing the ball in. It fell to Michael who turned and as his pass fell to Robbie Burns. Burns steadied himself and coolly dispatched the ball into the keepers right hand post.
Later Michael hit the underside of the bar as they opened up the academy defence and the rebound fell to Alistair whose shot was blocked.
The work rate of this Rossvale team was great and non-stop with the tiresome midfield putting the academy team under pressure at every opportunity. This was made all the easier as the Rossvale defence stood firm as academy attacked and everything they threw at them petered out either with the strong defence stopping them in their tracks or the commanding Grant took charge.
Rossvale deserved this win, hands down and should have won by a lot more and they know that they need to start making their chances count.
Full Time: Jimmy Johnstone Academy 0-1 Rossvale BC
A great confident win from a team who are turning the last quarter of the season into their own. Coaches very happy with the overall display but a few we things need ironed out which they know about so everything is looking good.
The next game on Tuesday, 27th may, is against the newly crowned Scottish Cup Champions who destroyed Westwood in the final on the same day 5-0. So we have the Scottish Cup Champions against the League Cup Champions so this should be a cracker, being played at Glasgow Green.
