Bearsden Academy Cameronian Cup Winner for second year running after entertaining victory at Celtic Park

It was Cameronian Cup final night at Celtic Park, as the holders Bearsden Academy faced St Peter’s AP in a repeat of last year’s final at the same venue!

It was Bearsden who would start the match but both teams would have an even start to the final, with the first chance going to St Peter’s, a low cross by Sam McArthur which was collected by substitute goalie, Charlie McFarlane.

However, in the 21st minute, Josh Stewart of Bearsden was brought down inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot, it would be Stewart who would take the penalty and he would score it as well, firing into the top corner to give his side the lead in the game!

Both sides would keep pushing forward until the half but neither side would be able to make any thing of their opportunities and the score would remain the same till half time!

St Peter’s AP would start the second half and would look the side most likely to get the next goal in the game. On the 52nd Minute, two consecutive shots by Zac Nugent would crash off the crossbar and would force an incredible save by Charlie McFarlane!

Just four minutes later however, Bearsden Academy’s Rory Beaton would cut inside and hit a shot that would bounce off the post into the opposite corner to double Bearsden Academy’s lead in the game!

Then just two minutes later it was 3-0! Callum Cairns’ pressure on the goalkeeper would pay off as he won the ball and would tap the ball into the net to give Bearsden Academy a comforting 3-0 lead in the game!

However St Peter’s weren’t giving up just yet, Adam Richards showed great footwork to hit a curled effort towards goal that forced a save from Charlie McFarlane that would lead to a corner. The resulting corner would meet the head of Sam McArthur and his strong header found the back of the net to bring his side back into the game at 3-1 with 15 minutes left to play!

St Peter’s would then find another goal with just five minutes left to go, a shot from the edge of the box was saved and fell to the feet of Harris Holloway who tapped the ball home to give his side a chance at an incredible comeback.

St Peter’s AP would have chances towards the end, but captain James Ward and his team  managed to dig deep and managed to see the game out!

Full time at Celtic Park and Bearden Academy had done it again! Cameronian Cup Winners for the Second year in a row!

Bearsden Academy Player of the Match: Charlie McFarlane

McFarlane was an unforeseen substitute early on in the game, but made multiple big saves throughout the game to keep his side in front!

St Peter’s AP Player of the Match: Sam McArthur

McArthur got his side back into the game with a powerful header and created multiple chances for his team!

Two goals in Two Minutes for the holders gave them a 3-0 advantage with just over 20 minutes left to play in the game!

Two goals late on brought them back into the game and they continued the pressure as the game came to an end!
