Berwick Rangers have hosted their first all-girls training session!
The Wee Rangers welcomed girls, ranging from ages 5-13, to Shielfield Park for the first time, with the players having come from all over North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders to have the opportunity to join in with the variety of fun footballing activities on offer.
The session was overseen by Andy and Tracy Donachie, who is the Technical Director of Girls and Women’s Football at the club. They were also helped out during the session by coaches Dawn Purvis and Kevin Logan.
Tracy said: “The first taster session was a great success. Andy and I were very happy with the turnout – the girls were enthusiastic and seemed to enjoy themselves. It was great to get to know the local players and coach such talented players.
“I am sure it was a great experience for the players to be able to train in such a wonderful stadium on a fantastic pitch with their guardians watching them from the stand.”
The session was run by the Berwick Rangers Community Foundation and it gave some of the girls an introduction to club football.
All of the girls taking part really took to this experience and the coaches were ecstatic to see their willingness to take part, as well as how much everyone enjoyed it.
Tracy looked ahead, saying: “Andy and the coaches were fantastic on the day – it was a pleasure to work alongside them and provide an organised and fun session for the kids.
“We are really looking forward to the next taster session on Sunday – hopefully many of the players from last week will return and we will also see some new faces.”
There’s still time to sign up for the next session on Sunday 6th – you can do so by clicking here.
