Both teams remain undefeated as Blackburn United come from behind to halt Lochend FA

At Meadowbank, the home of Lochend FA, the atmosphere was tense – speaking to the referee and a couple of coaches pre-match, both teams were up for this encounter.

In the run-up to the game, both teams hadn’t even stumbled in the league with Blackburn United winning seven out of seven and Lochend FA winning five from five.

Eventually, the game kicked off and it was Lochend who got us started and they got the first opportunity of the game in the second minute. The hosts got four corners on the bounce, but they were continually turned away by Blackburn United’s goalkeeper, Charlie Reid.

Blackburn got their best chance of the first half as Thomas Junik played a great long ball up to Will Mitchell, who did well to control the ball and get by his man, but he forced a stop from the Lochend FA goalkeeper.

The deadlock was broken in the 29th minute, Lochend’s number three Max Pollacchi found himself just inside the box and curled his effort past the Blackburn goalkeeper.

As the referee blew for half-time, you could tell the teams apart with their distinct playstyles. Lochend opted for less of the ball and striking when they got the space, having several shots from outside the box. As for Blackburn, they took their time with building up play and structuring their offence through two ball-confident centre-halves.

The second half was a similar story but a little more tense, the players looked even more up for it.

In the 53rd minute, Blackburn United were through on goal and the attacker was brought down just outside the box. Up stepped Alex Cooper who slotted his free kick into the far post, sneaking past the Lochend goalkeeper.

The curtains were drawn on the game with a stop-start closing five minutes with both teams hunting for the game-clinching goal. But it wasn’t to be in the end as both sides maintained their undefeated runs.

Lochend FA Player of the Game: Max Pollacchi

Attacker Massine Bekkout had a strong game and captain Declan Macdonald controlled his team well and anchored his side. However, Pollacchi played a great game for Lochend and deservedly got his goal.

Blackburn United Player of the Match: Thomas Junik

It was a great game for Junik to earn him player of the match, a strong performance from the confident centre half.

Lochend FA Magic Moment

Lochend’s magic moment today was the opening goal. Under the cosh with limited possession, they managed to break through with Pollacchi.

Blackburn United Magic Moment

Blackburn United’s magic moment could only be the equaliser, Alex Cooper’s strike bringing his team back onto level terms.
