Burnbank Football Club have recently announced that development plans to significantly upgrade their current facilities have been granted council permission.
The Coatbridge club has been given the green light from local authorities to upgrade the former bowling greens into a brand new, 3g astro pitch with LED floodlights, modernised changing facilities alongside 35 car parking spaces.
The current clubhouse is in Whifflet Park, Coatbridge, and currently sits in an unfit state with some locals describing it as ‘an eyesore’. But with the news that they’d hoped for Burnbank FC are calling the plans ‘An absolute game changer’.
Chairman duo, Mick Finneigan and Chris Finneigan released an official statement, on behalf of Burnbank FC, regarding the restoration of the clubhouse and new facilities:
“Burnbank Football Club is thrilled to announce that planning permission has been officially granted by North Lanarkshire Council for our brand-new, state-of-the-art 3G pitch at Whifflet Public Park!
This landmark redevelopment will transform the park’s former bowling greens into a modern football hub featuring a full-size 3G synthetic pitch, an LED floodlighting system, manager dugouts, and modern modular changing facilities.
For a grassroots club supporting over 300 young players every week, this is an absolute game-changer. It guarantees safe, year-round access to football for our academy players, no matter the weather.
Crucially, it will also allow us to significantly expand our dedicated girls’ football sessions and increase opportunities for women and girls in the local area.
Best of all, this project is a victory for everyone. These top-tier facilities will be fully accessible to the wider community, creating a vibrant health and fitness hub for local groups, schools, and public recreational use.

As the club get final preparations ready for construction, many of their teams are extremely excited for a fresh look to their home ground, which will soon be back in full swing.
The club have been looking at future plans for when the project is complete, including three versus three mini matches as well as a futsal style event.
