Caledonian Colts take all three points away to Tannochside in a goal-filled fixture

A lovely morning at the Sir Matt Busby complex saw a winless Tannochside host an inform Caledonian Colts who looked to top the CLYFA U16 B league by the end of the weekend however Tannochside were hungry to finally find the first 3 points of their league season.

Before kick-off it was clear the weather would be a massive deter with high winds controlling the pace of the game making long passes and shots unpredictable, creating an interesting 90 mins to come.

The whistle was blown and it was the visitors who settled into the game quickly as a result keeping the majority of possession and putting a lot of pressure on the hosts who were on the back foot. All of the domination led to a few opportunities however a wonderful free kick from Kenzie Lawrie found the opener and what a strike it was to kick off the goal scoring to come.

The game became slightly more even as Tannochside built into the game and took advantage of the wind by taking constant long attempts at goal and even coming close to equalising nonetheless the various opportunities from Kearney and Graham never found the back of the net. With the 1st half coming to a close Colts would get a few more chances down the flank from Rex Brown but at the break it stood Tannochside 0-1 Caledonian Colts.

The second half came to be a lot more exciting and the first 10 minutes demonstrated that as the away side tripled their lead in quick succession after Charlie Russell and Rex Brown worked so well down the left hand side and then the cross ball into the penalty area led to an unfortunate own goal for the second. The third this time was a well worked team goal finished off swiftly from Harrison Jones as Caledonian Colts looked to have continued the winning run however things took a turn quickly.

Tannochside reacted brilliantly to the bad start as the chances began to flood in after Piotr Kepa done exceptionally well to open up the strike however he hit the crossbar, then the substitution of Kennily Kazadi brought freshness to the Tannochside attack as he almost broke the deadlock when he chopped in on his preferred right foot however the blast at goal wide.

Then finally Tannochside got the goal they deserved after a goalkeeper error which opened up a golden opportunity for Kazadi who struck gold to uplift the home team’s spirits and urge on the comeback. It didn’t take long for the second which came from a bursting run as Dylan Graham set his sights for goal and he delivered as it looked like Tannochside would get something out of the game.

Yet Caledonian Colts showed why they are the best team so far in the league by killing off their opponents after they killed off the hosts momentum and punished them once again down the left hand side which seemed to be the out ball throughout the afternoon because of how congested it was down the middle of the park, it was another great ball in from Rex Brown which was met by the goalkeeper however spilled into his own net to assure the away side went home with the 3 points.

Tannochside Magic Moment – Kazadi’s first set the tone for the period of dominance for the home side, and it was a reward for the impact he made for the hosts.

Caledonian Colts Magic Moment – The first goal was in a league of its own, an unbelievable strike from distance and not only a great goal but a fantastic overall performance from Kenzie Lawrie.

Tannochside Man of the match – Although Kazadi made the difference I’d say skipper Aston Kearney was at the heart of everything going forward in that midfield role, he also came close on a few attempts however he just missed out on finding his name on the scoresheet.

Caledonian Colts Man of the Match – There were many standouts amongst the away squad however for me I thought Charlie Russell was magnificent especially with the ball at his feet, keeping cool and composed especially when the game became hectic.
