It was a fantastic performance by Knightswood in their second game in their U20 WOSFDL Conference C campaign, winning 4-0 against a spirited Drumchapel side at New Tinto Park.
Drumchapel hit the ground running with great, fast, controlled football, leading to a shot on target by captain Taylor Wright in the opening minute of the game.
Drumchapel with another shot on target by Leo Szolos, who got on the end of a clip in behind that was headed towards goal but was comfortably saved by Jonny Turner.
However, Knightswood were the ones to open the scoring with a great finish on the turn by striker Aaron Crawford, who got on the end of a great ball in by Harry Kyle, only 15 minutes into the game.
Knightswood were continuing to create chances with a series of corners that were matched by an aggressive Drumchapel defence, who were doing what they could to stop Knightswood from doubling their lead.
The Knightswood pressure paid off as Crawford was involved again, laying the ball off for captain Neale Merrigan, who burst through the Drumchapel defence and slotted it by the keeper to give themselves breathing space for the second half.
After the break, Drumchapel were knocking on the door early on with an unlucky attempt off the post by Robbie McMillan, doing what he could to try and get his team back in the game.
Knightswood’s Harry Kyle was in behind from a long ball over the top and was unlucky not to hit the target on the volley.
Knightswood did take a chance, and it was Joe Roberts to grab the third, who got onto Hakeem Vemmie’s outside the boot through ball for Roberts with a near post strike.
With 20 minutes to play, Knightswood won a penalty, and it was Joshua MacQueen who stepped up to take it, but it was a great stop by Rhys McGarrity to keep Knightswood from adding to the tally.
However, in the dying stages of the game, Knightswood grabbed a fourth. It was a sharp passing move, and it was substitute Jamie MacFarlane who took his time in the box, placing it in the bottom corner.
Knightswood have won both of their games, putting them at the top of Conference C, hoping to keep their record going.
