Cumnock Juniors win third title on the bounce with remarkable league campaign

Winning league titles is never an easy feat in football but for Cumnock Juniors U15s, it hasn’t proved an issue over the past few years.

Indeed, the young side recently won the West of Scotland U15s Youth League for the 2023/24 campaign, making it three titles in a row.

Having been champions for the previous two years, everyone was desperate to defeat Cumnock but they remained resolute throughout the season. 29 wins out of a possible 30 is nothing but commendable.

Several players contributed to their spectacular success over the past year, which included getting to two cup finals, but the actions of young Sam Wallace stand out.

The midfielder’s season ended through a training injury but for the last few months of the campaign, he continually turned up to games to support his teammates. Despite sporting a cast on his arm and being wheelchair-bound, Wallace cheered his side on.

Lead coaches David Kay and Kenny Harrison deserve the utmost credit for Cumnock U15s’ recent trophy-laden spell, and so does goalkeeping coach Stephen Auld, along with Marc Young and Rob Yorston, who complete the backroom team.

They said: “We are so proud of each and every one of the boy’s commitment and hard work that led them to win the league for the third year in a row. That is not something that happens easily and shows the determination of a wonderful team.”

Maintaining a winning mentality looks to be a key priority for Cumnock going into the upcoming campaign. They will have a few weeks off before returning to training and setting their sights on winning yet another league title and making it four in a row.
