North End Park played host to its third youth cup final this season as Dryburgh Athletic U13s defeated Arbroath Youth Blues U13s 3-0, winning the Marshall Cup Final for the very first time.
Arbroath got the cup final underway in front of a busy North End Park. The first major chance of the game came after only three minutes. From 35 yards, Dryburgh played a free kick into the box, and after a mix-up, Maison King for Dryburgh had the ball in the back of the net, but the lineman had his flag up, signalling it was offside.
Only three minutes later, Dryburgh would then have another great chance as eleven managed to break through on goal and he managed to get a shot away, but it was saved by Jax Talijaard. Four minutes later Dryburgh did manage to score as Oreoluwa Sosanya followed up on a rebound and fired it into the roof of the net to give his side an early lead.
Following this, Arbroath would begin to come into the game and have pleasant spells of play but due to some great tackles from the Dryburgh defence, they couldn’t get a shot away. Dryburgh would still have some great chances to score as Maison King delivered loads of great crosses from corners, but nobody was there to score.
Just before half-time, Dryburgh managed to get a second goal from the corner and another rebounded shot as Sosanyas’s earlier shot was saved and Rhys Whighton got on the rebound and finished, making it Dryburgh 2 Arbroath 0.
Arbroath came out fighting and determined to turn this final around, as just after the break, Chris West broke one-on-one with Dryburgh’s goalkeeper, and his shot went just wide. Dryburgh quickly responded as a minute later they had a chance to make it 3-0 as Josh McCullogh played it back to King, whose shot flew past the target.
Dryburgh managed to put the cherry on the cake as in the 55th minute Coden Gorrie broke through on goal and he managed to score to make it 3-0 with 15 minutes remaining. Just under five minutes after this, Arbroath would have another big chance as Damien Tralewski managed to get a shot away inside the box, it looked like it was going in, but it hit the post.
