Lasswade Thistle’s Buchanan brothers stole the show as they scored two goals each in a 5-0 victory over Edinburgh South to win the U16s South East Region Youth Football Association Division 1 League Cup.
Edinburgh South started the better of the two teams. They had successive corners and a free kick that forced saves out of Sinefoh in the Lasswade goal.
Thistle responded to the early pressure when they put a header just wide from close range.
As you would expect in a cup final, the game became very tense and nervy with both teams not giving much away or committing players forward.
Edinburgh South had a great chance to open the scoring when Forsyth capitalized on a mistake in midfield, but his effort from inside the box went just over the bar.
The deadlock was finally broken just after the half-hour mark with a sensational Sam Buchanan double in the space of two minutes to give Lasswade a two-goal lead. His first started with a great run into the box from Dobbie who put it on a plate for Buchanan who simply had to put it into an empty net.
His second was a shot taken from the left wing which took MacArthur in the Edinburgh South goal by surprise to double the lead.
It was three before half-time. The ball ricocheted and fell nicely to Davidson who was just outside the box. His low-driven effort gave Lasswade a third going into the break.
The second half started very slowly with nothing really happening. But it was brought to life after Sinefoh in the Thistle goal was forced into a good save after an Edinburgh South attack.
This woke Lasswade up as three minutes later they got a fourth from a corner. Josh Buchanan, Sam’s brother, volleyed home from 10 yards out.
Edinburgh South pushed forward late on to get a goal, but this left space at the back and Thistle punished them in the 85th minute. Josh Buchanan’s run ended with a shot across the goal which found the bottom right corner for him to get his double and secure the cup for Lasswade Thistle.
