Hearts seal pro deal for rising star Orla Burn

A new star in female football in Scotland is emerging, and at just 16 years of age, Orla Burn has signed her first professional contract with Hearts until 2028, which marked a significant achievement in her progress and the faith placed in her by the club. She gained vital experience in senior football with Motherwell Women, but always remained firmly in the sights of her parent club, Heart of Midlothian Women.

Orla started playing football at the Heart of Midlothian Academy when she was around nine years old and progressed from there to the youth team. She shone there too, winning a treble with the Hearts U16 girls’ team before moving on to senior football.

Orla made her first competitive senior appearance for Hearts in 2025, coming on as a substitute in a Scottish Cup match in a 9-0 victory over Falkirk. She also made her debut in the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) while playing for Hearts in the same year.

In pursuit of regular senior football, Hearts agreed a loan deal for the 2025/26 season with Motherwell Women. This was a significant decision, with Burn being one of the youngest players to play for Motherwell at the Scottish Women’s Premier League level.

Burn was given valuable minutes playing against experienced players at Fir Park, a decision deemed crucial for the young player’s long-term prospects. Her composure on the ball and understanding of the game were noted as she adjusted to the demands of playing at the highest level.

Orla has represented Scotland at youth level, where she has played for the Scotland U16s and Scotland U17s youth teams.

She has made several appearances and scored goals for the Scotland U16 team.
