Hundreds of young footballers from across Scotland were given the once in a lifetime to play at Easter Road as part of the Easter Road Grassroots Football Festival, organised by Hibernian Community Foundation.
Held over four action-packed days, the festival welcomed more than 700 grassroots players representing 64 clubs from across the country. The festival brought together families, friends and players, allowing for lifelong memories to be created.
Located in Leith, Easter Road is the home of Hibernian Football Club. The stadium has a capacity of over 20,000, making it the fifth largest football stadium in Scotland.
Players were given the opportunity to walk out the tunnel and play on the professional pitch, an incredibly offering from all parties involved.
The charity worked alongside Hibernian FC who said the event “offered a unique opportunity for young footballers to showcase their skills on one of Scotland’s most historic football stages, creating moments they’ll remember for years to come.”
Paul Greig is head of football at the charitable organisation, and was in charge of leading the extremely successful event. He said: “The extra-long days all worth ever minute of it when you see hundreds of young grassroots footballers from across Scotland step onto the pitch, play the game they love, and create memories that will last a lifetime, it was incredibly special to witness and be a part of.”
The festival highlights the incredible work Hibernian Community Foundation does for communities across Scotland. They help to inspire the next generation, encouraging participation in sport.
They also provide support off the pitch in many ways such as hot meals, warm spaces, choirs and social clubs.
Greig also thanked YFS for their contribution, “It was fantastic to have the team from Youth Football Scotland attend our Easter Road Grassroots Football Festivals this last week at Easter Road Stadium.
“Having YFS attend allowed us to provide a professional photography service to all clubs / families meaning they could leave with a memory of their time playing at Easter Road Stadium.
“We would highly recommend any organisers or clubs having festivals / tournaments to reach out to Stuart and the team as they could add terrific value and professionalism to your event.”
The Easter Road Grassroots Football Festival was not only a celebration and an exciting day out, but it was also a reminder of the importance of sport, and the way it connects others, inspiring future generations along the way.
