Inverness Caledonian Under-16’s Girls lift the North League Cup

It was a mini Highland Derby in Nairn as Inverness WFC looked to win the first piece of silverware for any of the clubs’ girls or women’s team while Ross County hoped to take home a second cup after the success of their Under-14’s in their final.

The start of the match highlighted exactly why both teams were in this final. Creative plays leading to a strong attack to be met by a strong opposition in defence. Inverness were the first to try break through a defensive back line and eventually Constance Bell managed to catch on to an opportunity which led to the first goal of the game. It wasn’t long before a display of skill from Maimie Zimmerman led to her name going on the goal sheet with the second goal for Inverness. By half time a third had been fired in by Megan Scott.

The second half saw Ross County creating quite a few shots on target but going slightly too wide or high. Ross County’s Daisy Fraser managed to pick up a few good balls and was instrumental in creating a bit of work for the Inverness defence. However, it wasn’t long before Inverness scored their only goal of the second half after Emma Scobbie took advantage of a well positioned ball and hit it in.

Ross County were able to get one passed the Inverness keeper, Kiera Downie, before full time and were able to prevent an Inverness clean sheet in the match. The game ended with Inverness taking home their first piece of silverware for their women and girls side.
