Knightswood completed their SYFA Inspire Sports Scottish Cup run in style with a stunning 3-0 victory in their final against Cumbernauld Colts Black at Broadwood stadium.
With stunning weather to go with the fixture, the players and crowd were right up for the big day out. As the teams emerged from the tunnel prior to kick off, tensions began and stomachs began churning as nerves kicked in.
As we got underway in Cumbernauld, both sides looked to find their rhythm in the game, playing safe passes and retaining possession.
Within minutes Knightswood found themselves with several small opportunities to deliver the ball into the box after being awarded a couple of free kicks.
Knightswood continued to apply the pressure to the Colts blazing several great chances off target but certainly gaining momentum.
The blues then protested a penalty claim however the match officials were quick to wave the calls away before Cumbernauld Colts had a similar situation minutes later to which their claims were also dismissed.
By the 35th minute mark what can only be described as an incredible lofted ball was played from the half-way line all the way into the Cumbernauld Colts box which was controlled by Mac Massie who caught it on the half volley and thundered it in with power to give his side a 1-0 advantage just ten minutes before half time.
Just five minutes later David McGuire aimed his shot goal bound but a phenomenal save from Kyle Shiels tipped away from the top right corner and out for a corner.
That was the final key highlight from the opening half, where after 45 minutes it was Knightswood 1-0 Cumbernauld Colts Black
As we got back underway at Broadwood for the second half, Cumbernauld Colts had a job at hand which was to find a way back into the game.
The colts hunted for the leveller with several opportunities, but none were able to test Knightswood keeper, Connor McKenna.
The hour mark quickly approached, and it was still to play for but nine minutes later a great opportunity arose for Knightswood as Harry McDonald flicked on a header into the path of Kyle King who seen off several defenders before finessing a curling effort into the far corner to double his sides lead.
As Cumbernauld gave a final push, they found themselves caught out following a pinpoint delivery guided into the centre of the six-yard box was headed home by Logan Spence to make it 3-0.
Cumbernauld had to face the final 15 minutes a man down which summed up the evening for the Colts
As the closing moments of the game approached it was a desperate wait for the final whistle before the celebrations began and Knightswood were officially crowned the U17s SYFA Inspire Sports Scottish Cup champions!
A huge congratulations to them from everyone at Youth Football Scotland and we wish both finalists the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
Knightswood Magic Moment:
It was a very tough decision with two outstanding goals however the standout must go to Mac Massie’s finish to put his side one up in the first half. The outstanding ball that came from the halfway line all the way into the box was unbelievable and a fine finish to top it off
Cumbernauld Colts Magic Moment:
The unbelievable save coming from the Colt’s keeper to deny Knightswood a second goal is a save that can’t go unnoticed. A shot that looked guaranteed to go in but the reaction and ability to turn it away was second to none
