Sunday 1st May 2011 Liberton United U13s V Tranent Juniors BFC U13s
A big day for the Liberton United coach and players as this could be the day they win the league title.
Sean Gilhooley wins the coin toss, deciding to change sides. Tranent kick off and immediately Liberton go on the attack, taking the ball from Tranent between defence and mid field and straight away go on the break with 3 chances in concession which go amiss. Then Keiran Dickson picks up the ball on the right wing playing it on to Lewis Kynoch who then slots it through to Grant Chappell sending it straight into the back of the net. 1 nil to Libby.
Tranent kick off and again are hunted down by Liberton who break them down and get the ball down and start passing about, creating more chances. Liberton take a throw in with Paul Weir throwing to Dickson who knocks it on to Chappell and again hits the back of the net. 2 nil to Libby.
Liberton, on a high put Tranent under a lot of pressure for about 15 minutes with Mark Barnet, Paul Weir, Lewis Gray and Lee McMullan all getting heavily involved in the plays protecting their back line. Cameron Oag and Gilhooley both get involved inside and outside the box with a few unlucky shots from Oag. McMullan filling the gap in midfield sending the ball straight back in as soon as it came out. Dickson, once more with the ball on the right side of the box finds Kynoch who takes on one and plays it to Chappell who shoots but Tranent keeper does his job and puts it out for a Libby corner. Kynoch sends in a perfect ball, keeper repeats his save for another corner. Kynoch again sends in a great ball which the keeper knocks over to left side of the field. Paul Reilly sends it in, landing at Chappell’s feet who shoots straight off the upright; Tranent put it out again for another corner.
Kynoch takes it again, sending it straight into danger, Tranent defender try’s to clear putting it straight up in the air. Weir, appearing to be the only one keeping his cool, keeps his eye on the ball, sending the ball into the open goal with a thundering header. 3 nil to Libby.
Corner number four for Libby with Kynoch again putting the ball in the thick of it, with Tranent scrambling for the ball. Chappell, right place right time, chests it, rolls it down to his feet, and scores his hat trick of the game. 4 nil to Libby.
Tranent still on the back foot, Chappell receives the ball midfield, strikes just outside the box, the ball bobbles, the goalie, fumbles and goal number five for Libby. Half time.
Liberton take centre, playing back to Gilhooley who plays it wide to Dickson, who under pressure performs his acrobatic overhead kick on the right wing for Chappell to run on to, Tranent definitely on their toes now force Chappell out. Tranent throw in. Tranent getting up the field try to create some chances with the long ball but to no avail with Barnet, Weir, Gray and McMullan and Luag Laspina cleaning up everything that came their way using keeper Lewis Whitelaw very well. Whitelaw creating a great service taking a lot of pressure off the back four.
Tranent again falling victim to set pieces, Kynoch takes another corner with the keeper going for it and missing, Chappell seeing another opportunity makes it 6 nil to Libby.
Liberton kept a hold of the ball, making it difficult for Tranent to get the chance to score. Liberton go back on the front foot with a few great chances from Kynoch, Dickson and Cameron Oag and a thunderous shot from Gilhooley. Ben Laidlaw linking up with McMullan swapping positions and getting a well needed wing play to the left side helped in holding the play in the Liberton area.
A fantastic game of football, well done Liberton United, well deserved.
