Liberton United were away to Leith Athletic Whites in the fourth to last game of the league. Liberton take centre and take the game straight to Leith first with two chances in the first minutes of the game coming from Grant Chappell and Lee McMullan with a far out strike. The first goal coming from a through ball to Lewis Kynoch to place it passed the goalie 1-0 Liberton. Liberton could have had a few more chances but the ref gave a couple of dubious offside calls.
Leith were on the attack and clearly offside, while the ref played on Lewis Whitelaw presuming the offside with the defence stopping , Leith strike over Whitelaw making it 1-1.
Liberton took the centre and go straight at Leith again, Chappell coming close and Kynoch following with another close shot. Another chance for Chappell which was an unlucky miss, with Kynoch picking up the ball in front of the 18 yards, releasing to Chappell who this time hits the back of the net. 1-2 to Liberton.
Leith take centre this time and run straight into a brick wall of Liberton’s well gelled back four of Mark Barnet, Paul Weir, Jack Doyle and Lee McMullan ,who plays the ball to Cameron Oag who then treads it through to Keiran Dickson who belts it straight at the keeper. Leith goal kick, Lewis Gray see’s it and runs right by Leith to intercept the ball for another good chance, but going just wide. goal kick for Leith again.
Leith on the attack again hit that same brick wall, with Doyle putting it straight up the park where Sean Gilhooley picks it up and drives towards goal, again just wide, with Chappell sending in another great shot minutes later but straight at the goalie. Subs: Dickson and McMullan come off while Jack Collins and Paul Reilly come on in place of them.
Second half kicks off with Leith heading straight to goal but Whitelaw coming out, baring down on them pulls off a fantastic save. Liberton get two corners in concession, great in swing balls from Oag but two more chances bypass Liberton again, Reilly going just wide of the Leith goal and Weir just missing with a splendid strike. Subs: Luag Laspina and Ben Laidlaw come on for Oag and Chappell.
The next part of the game was played mostly in the centre of the park with Leith trying to get an even score and Liberton pushing for their third goal to finish the game off. Subs: Kynoch, Barnet, Doyle and Gray all have a rest while Dickson, Chappell, McMullan and Oag all return for the remainder of the game.
Gilhooley picks up the ball in centre midfield, puts it wide for Chappell who plays it in to centre for Dickson who miss kicks it, Chappell picks it up outside the 18 yards and drives in Liberton’s third goal. 3-1 to Libby.
Liberton all in all had a good game, the lads worked very hard. Leith having two chances and getting a goal, and Liberton having in the region of twenty two chances and getting three goals, odds not good but a win all the same. So, well done to both teams.
