Montrose Youth secured all three points to move seven clear at the top of the table ahead of Dundee United Social Club, following an impressive 3–1 victory over Monifieth Athletic U13 Blues.
The visitors created the first opportunity of the match inside 90 seconds. John Craig produced a strong run, beating several defenders, but his effort drifted wide of the post without troubling goalkeeper Murray Adie. Montrose responded with an early chance of their own when Junior Rudden saw a powerful strike sail narrowly over the crossbar.
Monifieth were then presented with a golden opportunity to take the lead as Craig broke through one-on-one, but Adie produced an excellent save to keep the scores level.
Montrose opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Kody Swankie delivered a dangerous ball into the box from a wide set piece and, following a scramble in the area, Rudden reacted quickest to fire home and give the Gable Endies an early advantage.
The hosts continued to press for a second goal. Miller Reid came close with an acrobatic effort, but Flynn Crowe made a strong save to deny him. Monifieth also threatened, with two promising chances falling their way, but neither attempt found the target.
Montrose went into the break leading 1–0, having defended resolutely while continuing to look dangerous in attack.
Three minutes into the second half, Demir Chetin embarked on a skilful run through the Monifieth defence, only to be denied by a superb diving save from Crowe. Moments later, Monifieth found their equaliser. Craig’s low, driven strike found the bottom corner to bring the visitors level with a composed finish.
Montrose responded swiftly. From a resulting free kick, the ball fell to Jack Robertson, who converted from close range to restore the lead. Just three minutes later, the advantage was extended to 3–1 when a dangerous delivery into the box resulted in an unfortunate own goal.
Both sides made changes as the match progressed, with substitutes such as Finn Holroyd adding energy and creativity. Monifieth continued to press in search of a way back into the contest, but Montrose defended with determination and discipline to preserve their advantage.
The referee, Atanas Kusev, brought proceedings to a close with Montrose deserved winners.
Montrose now stand firmly at the summit, extending their lead and strengthening their position in the title race.
