Motherwell Phoenix take all three points to make it three wins in their last three games against St Patrick’s SA in the CLYFA U17s A Division.
15 minutes into the game, St Pats strike first, sending the ball into the box from the left-hand side to striker Adam Lannigan, who flicked the ball over to the back post for Lewis Harthill to volley it home.
However, 20 minutes after that, Motherwell Phoenix were given a drop ball in their own half and Logan Jaffray, Max McBride and Osin Carlin made a lovely passing move down the left wing for Lewis Hart, who smashed it into the near post top corner.
Just before the break, Motherwell Phoenix took the lead. Goalkeeper Thomas Reilly picked out Hart at the halfway line to perfectly place the header to McBride, who took the ball a run and slotted it by the keeper across goal.
Five minutes after half-time, Motherwell worked it down the right-hand side and McBride found himself in behind the defence. He passed it towards goal, but St Pats captain Rhys Murphy got back in and cleared it off the line, giving his team a spark of hope.
With that spark, 60 minutes in St Pats had a throw-in down the left-hand side. It was played into Quinn Sharkey’s feet, and after a brilliant turn by the Motherwell defender, he cut inside and calmly placed it into the bottom left corner.
Only five minutes later, Motherwell Phoenix got themselves back on top. During a scramble after a corner, Dylan Bulloch won a foul in the box, and the referee gave the penalty. Bulloch stepped up to take the penalty he won and sent the keeper the wrong way, giving his team the lead.
St Pats equalised with ten minutes left, they played lovely football to break down Motherwell’s defence just outside the box and got it to Sharkey in behind the defence who passed it by the keeper.
To take the win only one minute after the equaliser, Motherwell Phoenix whip a corner in from the right-hand side, Leon Woods went up for the header with St Pats captain Murphy. It came off Murphy’s head last and found the back of the net.
It was an entertaining game with the first half being tight and the second half having end-to-end football.
