St Bridget’s Primary School has had a season like no other, their remarkable achievements represent something much greater than just winning a trophy.
Based in Baillieston in Glasgow’s East End, St Bridget’s Primary School is home to both an A team and B team, offering opportunities for players of all abilities to develop their game.
Both squads train once a week, focusing on tactics, technique, and creating bonds.
Behind every successful team, are volunteers who dedicate countless hours to giving others this invaluable life experience, at St Bridget’s, that person is Mr Mac.
Having begun coaching the team voluntarily in 1985, Mr Mac has devoted more than 40 years to school football, those involved say his impact simply can’t be described.
Former players say he made every child feel valued, regardless of ability, and some have even stayed in touch.
This season St Bridget’s won the Horgan League, the Pope’s Charity Cup and the Championship to complete a treble for the first time in two decades.
They also reached the final of the Carruth Cup, narrowly missing out after facing a strong St Mirin side.
Mr Mac described this season as “the proudest of his life”, and this time round he had an extra link to the team itself.
His own grandson, Sam, captained the St Bridget’s A team to victory.
Parents and families of the squad are so grateful to have watched this group grow together, create lifelong friendship and experience memories that will stay with them long after they leave primary school.
The team is full of tales, with the recipient of the resilience award, Jack, having missed only 1 game despite having 4 operations this year.
