On The Ball Academy U14s score last-ditch equaliser to draw with United FA

With just four points separating the sides before kick-off, there was always an expectation of a tight contest between them at Glasgow Green Football Centre, and this game delivered right to the final whistle.

Both teams started brightly, moving the ball up and down the pitch at pace as they battled to gain early control. It was United Football Academy who struck first, with Ollie Kilday producing a moment of quality to open the scoring. Taking the ball confidently around his defender, he calmly finished to give United a 1-0 lead.

Continuing to apply pressure, it wasn’t long before United doubled their advantage. Gabriel Cullen slipped it past the defence in a similar fashion to teammate Kilday, putting United firmly in control of the fixture.

On The Ball showed real character and a sense of togetherness as they searched for a way back into the match. Lewis Lafferty refused to let the game drift away, while Riley Watson began to showcase his ability to control and dictate play in the midfield.

A dangerous corner from Joseph Keenan almost pulled one back for On The Ball, landing at the feet of Lafferty, who was unable to get the ball under control. The pressure eventually paid off when On The Ball found an equaliser just before half-time, giving them a huge lift heading into the break.

Moments into the second half, an offside decision ruled out another United goal, keeping On The Ball firmly in the contest. Watson continued to impress, repeatedly showing his football intelligence by pausing and assessing his options to opt for smart passes.

United were far from done and continued to threaten. Michael Murnin came close from a free kick, curling a powerful effort towards the top corner, only for On The Ball goalkeeper Rudi Mills to pull off an excellent save to keep his side level.

The final 15 minutes saw On The Ball push hard in search of a winner, pressing high and forcing United onto the back foot. Watson tried his luck again but was chased down by a determined United defence.

With just three minutes remaining, Watson found himself one-on-one with the United goalkeeper, slotting the ball into the bottom right corner to secure a dramatic late equaliser.

Celebrations were short-lived as United quickly restarted, desperate to hunt down a winner, but both sides settled for a point in a hard-fought encounter.
