Portobello High School’s Senior Boys’ Football Team crowned an outstanding season by lifting the Lothian Schools FA Senior Cup with a superb 2–0 victory over Firrhill High School in the final.
Portobello produced a composed performance to overcome highly regarded opponents and secure one of the most prestigious trophies in regional schools football. Firrhill High School have been one of the stronger football schools in Edinburgh in recent years, with successful age-group teams and cup wins.
The victory is a fitting reward for a talented group of players whose commitment and teamwork have been evident throughout the season. Winning the Lothian Schools FA Senior Cup represents a significant achievement and adds another proud chapter to Portobello High School’s sporting history.
Portobello have a long-established football tradition, with former pupils going on to professional careers, so this Senior Cup-winning side adds another notable chapter to the school’s sporting history. Former pupils include professional footballers such as Josh Doig, Andy Irving, Jackie McNamara and Marc McNulty. To add to the history books, the hero of the 2026 final; striker Jackson Daly, whose clinical finishing proved decisive. Daly struck twice to give Portobello a deserved victory, scoring both goals in a memorable cup-final display that will live long in the memory of players, staff and supporters alike.
For Jackson Daly, the final will be remembered as a personal milestone, with his match-winning brace securing his place in Portobello football folklore.
As the celebrations continue, the Senior Boys can look back with pride on a season that ended in the best possible way — as Lothian Schools FA Senior Cup champions.
