Royal Albert become Divisional Cup Champions

Royal Albert faced off in the D divisional cup final against Shotts YM at the Hamilton Community Stadium. A good battle between two strong sides was promised, as both sides went into the game with momentum.

As we got underway, both teams played frantically, as end to end chances came from the off. Shotts had the first big opportunity, as Oliver McLean was set free in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, in which he came close to converting, as his shot was just wide.

Shortly after the opportunity for McLean, Shotts were awarded a corner, Royal Albert failed to properly deal with the corner defensively, as Cole MacLeod knocked it home at the back post to fire Shotts in front.

Royal Albert fell a goal behind, but did not let it phase them, as they straight away began to search for their equaliser. They were awarded a free kick, which was fired home into the top corner impressively from around the 25 yard mark. Royal Albert found their leveller in the first half.

Only a matter of minutes later, Royal Albert were at it again, testing the Shotts backline, striker David Izuogu, who had been causing problems all game, found a chance one on one with the opposition goalkeeper, in which he slotted into the bottom left corner. Izuogu’s goal had Royal Albert in front for the first time in the final, showing good fight to turn it around.

As the second half was underway, Shotts were in need of a goal, but struggled to find a way to put pressure on Royal Albert.

Royal Albert continued to ask questions of the Shotts defence, but they couldn’t find their cushion.

Royal Albert were comfortable in the second period, seeing out their 2-1 victory to become D divisional cup champions, in what was a tight battle that could have went either sides way.

Royal Albert Player Of The Match: David Izuogu

Izuogu caused problems for his opponents everytime he received the ball, making the backline of Shotts have to work everytime he was on the ball.

Shotts YM Player Of The Match: Cole MacLeod

Cole MacLeod played a big part in helping his team stay alive in the game. His opening goal to fire his side in front played a huge part in the momentum for his side.
