SYFA CUP FINAL PREVIEW: Knightswood Football Club v Cumbernauld Colts FC Black’

Saturday evening is set to be another entertaining evening as Cumbernauld Colts
Black are set to take on Knightswood in the SYFA Inspire Scottish youth FA cup
final.

As a night under the lights at Broadwood stadium awaits, let’s look at the two teams
and how they have reached the final stage of the cup.

Historical results seen Knightswood defeated to Cumbernauld Colts in the
competition last year in a 2-2 draw.

In a more recent pre-season encounter Knightswood were victorious, setting up a
nail biting encounter.

This year however, it’s not a place in the next round the teams are fighting for but for
the cup and a hard-earned piece of silver wear.

Starting with Cumbernauld Colts Black, a side that have recently formed as a team
after previously being Airdrie Pumas. In just their second season they could have
their hands on a coveted piece of silverware.

Colts’ run into the final was action packed with the squad scoring 32 goals since the
start of the competition.

It all began in October when the round two matches of the cup took place, where the
Colts ran rampage winning 9-3 in the opening fixture in a tie that delivered plenty of
goals.

Cumbernauld bettered their first-round score delivering ten goals in their second cup
fixture back in November while keeping a clean sheet.

Round four proved a challenge for the boys as they managed to squeeze past
Motherwell Phoenix in a tight 2-1 victory at home.

As round five approached it was another win for the lads defeating St. Cuthbert
Wanderers 4-1 in an away tie with the next rounds fixture already confirmed to be a
clash with AM Soccer Club.

With pressure piling as Cumbernauld hit the latter stages of the competition, the
challenges began with a quarter final match in which they would draw 3-3 against
Dundee West FC Reds before prevailing on penalties.

The dream continued into the semi final as they faced West Dyke which captain
Riley Burns described as “tough semi-final” with a 1-0 win seeing them through.
All eyes now turn to the big game on Saturday at 8pm when they take on
Knightswood.

As for Knightswood their hunt for glory also began in round two as they faced
Cumbernauld Colts Whites and seen out a 1-0 victory.

It was another 1-0 victory in the third round against Whitburn FC Amber in another
close and cagey encounter.

Round four proves to be slightly more comfortable for Knightswood as they faced St.
Patricks SA and defeated them 3-1 away from home.

Rounds five and six were ties against Drumchapel and Dundee United SC with the
home advantage proving costly in a victory as Knightswood bet Drumchapel before
winning 4-2 away in Dundee to go through in the cup.

It was a tough fixture in the quarter final for Knightswood as they found themselves
two goals down in less than 90 seconds against Blackburn United, however, a strong
effort seen the hosts claw back to draw level and winning the tie on penalties.

The final hurdle for Knightswood to reach the final was Rossvale FC and they
certainly done it in style winning 7-0 which sees them gain confidence for Saturdays
match.

The game kicks off at 7:30pm on Saturday at Broadwood stadium in Cumbernauld.
