Syngenta Juveniles 2008s produce dominant display against Rossvale FC Scotia

Syngenta Juveniles 2008s beat Rossvale FC Scotia 3-0 in both sides’ fifth CFSA U15s league match at Glasgow Club, Milton.

Brandon Cunningham opened the scoring with a header from a corner in the first half, before Evan Prokipczyn nodded home a free kick in the second half. David Meechan put the icing on the cake for Syngenta, with an effort that screamed into the back of the net from outside the area.

Rossvale started very much on the front foot and were unlucky not to have the lead 10 minutes in when a cross took a wicked deflection and hit the bar. Not long after, Meechan had a goal disallowed for a narrow offside.

The match was very much an end-to-end encounter.

With the two teams so evenly matched, it was anybody’s guess who would score first, but it was Syngenta who broke the deadlock. Rudy O’Donovan delivered an excellent inswinging cross with his left foot, and Juveniles captain Cunningham nodded home.

Rossvale came flying out of the traps in search of a second-half equaliser and nearly had one when the ball was directed toward goal by a sea of bodies. Syngenta had Jamie Ferguson to thank for an outstanding goal-line clearance that not only prevented a goal but cleared it from the danger zone.

Ferguson’s heroics seemed to light a fire under Syngenta and it wasn’t long before they had another. O’Donovan was fouled on the left-hand side of the midfield third. He then picked himself up, dusted himself off, and swung in another beautiful cross for Prokipczyn to head past the helpless goalkeeper.

Rossvale worked their socks off to try and fashion a way back into the match but Syngenta were in their stride by this point. The curtains on the match were all but drawn when Meechan took the ball in the midfield and shifted it onto his left foot, before drilling it high into the goal.

Despite losing, Rossvale played in a manner that showed that they stick together through thick and thin, with no fingers of blame being pointed. This seemingly tight-knit atmosphere could give them all the tools for future success.

Syngenta Juveniles Player of the Match: Brandon Cunningham

The young center-back showed maturity beyond his years in captaining his side to victory, displaying great composure and leadership, even popping up with the opening goal.

Syngenta Juveniles Magic Moment:

Either one of O’Donovan’s assists could have been the magic moment, but Meechan’s goal would have sent the stands into hysterics at a professional match.
