Valspar take maximum points after thrilling match ending

It was a good morning for the game today as the sun was out at the Dean Park which would host a brilliant game of two halves between Dean Thistle and Valspar.

Both teams looked up for the game during their warmups which led to a fast paced start to the game with both teams pressing with intent trying to get an early goal.

Dean Thistles set pieces seem to be causing trouble for Valspar with Finn Strain’s long range effort going just over.

Strain, who’s technique was on point, whipped in a dangerous ball that bounced just in front of James McIlwraith who made a brilliant reflex save to push it wide.

This seemed to wake Valspar up as they then started playing some fantastic football creating dangerous chances and taking control of the game but just couldn’t find the back of the net with Dean Thistles keeper, Ruaridh David Paton making some great saves to keep the score level.

Half Time 0-0

As the second half began, Valspar came out flying with Daniel Holden making a smart run in behind the defence but the pass through was cut out.

Not long after Valspar continued to apply pressure with midfielder Richie Stewart firing a long range effort towards goal which hit the wrong side of the post denying a wonderful goal.

As Dean Thistle pushed forward trying to put themselves a head, space opened up for Holden as when the ball came through to him he chopped inside on to his right foot curling a stunning finish into the bottom right corner in the 60th minute.

Not long after, set pieces turned out to be a vital part of the game again but this time for Valspar as captain Jamie Reid followed in a free kick that allowed him to put his team 2-0 up in the 63rd minute.

Dean Thistle trying to get a goal back played some really nice football and gave 100% till the very end but Valspar midfielder Stewart intercepted the ball and fired another powerful long range effort towards goal which this time hit the back the net on the 70th minute to end the game 3-0.

Dean Thistle’s Player of the match:

The captain Daniel Hamilton ran for the full 80 minutes and helped break up many attacks and drove his team up the field with silky dribbling and passing.

Valspar’s Player of the match:

Richie Stewart was fantastic in midfield with winning aerial duels to his rocket of goal, it was an all round performance from Stewart.

Dean Thistle’s Magic Moment:

Paton made a wonderful save when he pushed a ball wide of the post after it deflected off his defender’s foot to keep the first half at 0-0.

Valspar’s Magic Moment:

Holden’s magic curling shot after his chop to put his team 1-0 that started Valspar’s final 10 minute rampage.
