Welcome back to the YFS Weekly CAS U19s newsletter, detailing the latest results and news from the CAS Elite and Performance Leagues.
Performance League Roundup
It was a relatively quiet week in the U19s age group given the wide spread of players called up for International duties and no fixtures in the Elite league, but from the small selection of fixtures that took place in the Performance league, here is a look at the results from during the week:
Livingston hosted Alloa Athletic at the Home of the Set Fare Arena as they came out on top with a comfortable 4-1 win with a brace coming from the captain to move above Falkirk in their third league win and now sit in seventh place on 10 points.
League leaders Partick Thistle faced the tough challenge of Glasgow rivals Queens Park in a close edged game. Queens park took the lead in the 58th minute and looked to see the game out but late derby drama seen the jags awarded a 91st minute penalty to salvage a point to remain top of the table in a 1-1 draw at Petershill Park.
Hot on the tails of Thistle was Ayr United who sat five points behind in second place before travelling away to Falkrik. Ayr had the advantage bagging two first half goals to take control via Liam Davidson and Zach Smith but Falkirk eventually responded via a 70th minute penalty but Ayr put the game to bed as Tom Cochrane converted a spot kick in the final minutes to round off a 3-1 victory at the Falkirk Stadium. Those three points leave Ayr just one win away from levelling Partick Thistle at the top. Ayr still have a game in hand which sets up a thrilling fight for first.
It was a difficult night for Edinburgh City who welcomed St Johnstone to the capital, however it would prove that the Perthshire side were too strong in a good day at the office, bagging a three goal victory as they look to chase Montrose who sit just a singular point above in third, but more importantly close the gap to first place.
What had already proved a difficult start to the season for Queen of the South, was a difficult result against Montrose as they stormed away with a convinving result against the hosts, scoring six out of the seven goals in the opening 45 minutes. Queen of the South prevented any further damage keeping a second half clean sheet however a hat trick of braces from Ward, Taylor and Clelland would prove to be a tough task to overcome.
