Wilson and Lawrence masterclass inspire Scotland U21s to record victory over Gibraltar

Dens Park was the venue for Scotland U21s’ clash against Gibraltar U21 in a UEFA Euro qualifier. Both sides came into the match without a win with both sides playing two and losing two.  David Ochellos Gibrlatar side came into the match with five defeats out of five and Scott Gemmill’s Scotland side came into the game with only one win out of the last five.

Scotland U21 produced a sensational attacking display at Dens Park, putting twelve past Gibraltar in a one-sided encounter that showcased the depth and quality within Scot Gemmill’s squad.

The young Scots made a lightning start. With just two minutes played, Emilio Lawrence opened the scoring from close range to set the tone for what would become a dominant evening. Scotland kept up the pressure, with captain David Watson forcing Gibraltar goalkeeper Harry Victor into a fine save just after the ten-minute mark.

The hosts continued to dictate possession and were rewarded again in the 22nd minute when Adedire Mebude went on a brilliant solo run, beating his marker and firing home to double the lead. Moments later, Lawrence grabbed his second of the night with a superb strike from distance, making it 3–0 before the half-hour mark.

Gibraltar’s defence then suffered more misfortune when an own goal extended the lead to four.

Scotland showed no signs of easing up. James Wilson added a fifth from inside the box at 30 minutes, before Kyle Ure made it seven with a calm finish in the 33rd. The home side’s energy, pressing, and fluid passing were relentless, and they went into the break leading 7–0 after a breathtaking first-half performance.

Scotland made several substitutions at the interval, introducing McPherson, Thomson, Cleall-Harding, and Molotnikov for Donovan, Anderson, Graham, and Montgomery, but the momentum continued seamlessly.

Just three minutes into the second half, James Wilson completed his hat-trick to make it 8–0, prompting his substitution for Ryan One shortly afterward.

The goals continued to flow as Emilio Lawrence completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute, before adding a fourth just two minutes later to push Scotland into double digits at 10–0.

The substitutes made an impact as well, with Miller Thomson coming off the bench to score and make it 11–0 in the 74th minute, before Jeremiah Mullen added his name to the scoresheet with Scotland’s twelfth of the night late on.

The referee’s whistle brought an end to an emphatic 12–0 victory for Scotland. It was a complete performance from start to finish, with standout contributions from Emilio Lawrence, who scored four, and James Wilson, who netted a hat-trick.

Attention now turns to Tuesday night’s fixture, as Scotland U21 look to continue their strong form when they take on Azerbaijan.

Scotland Player of the Match: James Wilson

Leading the line with intelligence and determination, he constantly caused problems for Gibraltar’s backline. His movement off the ball created space for teammates, and his three well-taken goals highlighted both his composure and finishing ability. Beyond his scoring, Wilson’s work rate and link-up play embodied the energy and intent that defined Scotland’s display, making him a standout performer in a memorable 12–0 victory.

Gibraltar Player of the Match: Harry Victor

Despite the 12–0 defeat, Victor made several excellent saves and did all he could under constant pressure.

Scotland Magic Moment:

The magic moment of the match came as Scotland’s attacking power reached full flow, with both James Wilson and Emilio Lawrence completing their hat-tricks in spectacular style. The crowd at Dens Park erupted as the pair combined pace, precision, and composure to tear through the Gibraltar defence. Lawrence’s goals showed his flair and technical quality, while Wilson’s clinical finishing displayed the confidence of a natural striker. Their combined brilliance perfectly summed up Scotland’s dominance on a night where everything seemed to click in the final third.

Gibraltar Magic Moment:

In the closing moments, Kevan Gonzalez produced a brilliant diving header to block a close-range effort and divert the ball out for a corner. It was a moment of sheer commitment that denied Scotland a 13th goal and epitomised Gibraltar’s determination to keep fighting until the final whistle.
