Cumbernauld Colts Yellows U14s goalkeeper Lucy Park has won this week’s Youth Football Scotland Player of the Week Zenith Coin.
The shotstopper, who undergoes additional 1-to-1 sessions outside of regular training, has been awarded the coin as a result of her resilience and attitude to playing, which has helped see her own ability develop into a vital part of her Cumbernauld Colts side.
Park selflessly hailed her coaching staff and teammates for factors towards her achievement, and says it is working beside them that makes playing football such a delight.
She said: “I am really thankful to have been given this opportunity and to be chosen as Zenith Coin Player of the Week.
“Joining Cumbernauld Colts has helped me move forward as a player, improve my skills, and develop my confidence on the pitch. Aaron and all of the coaches understand my needs and support me to keep improving every week, which means a lot to me.
“I am also very grateful to my 1-to-1 goalkeeping coach, Anthony Morris, and my Group Goalkeeping Coach, Ailey Tebbett. The support and encouragement I receive from them, along with my team coaches, allows me to develop at my own pace and not let my disability stand in the way of achieving my goals.
“We have a fantastic team, and all of the girls make football so enjoyable. I’m grateful to be part of such a supportive group and to play alongside such talented teammates.
“Thank you to everyone who has helped, supported, and believed in me along the way.”
Goalkeeping coach Aaron Auld praised Lucy’s performances against better sides, and says seeing her development has been a joy to watch.
He said: “Since joining Cumbernauld Colts in January of this year, the speed with which Lucy has settled into the side and become one of the most reliable members of the team has been pleasure to watch.
“Lucy’s shot stopping technique was already good when she joined us and is an area she continues to strengthen. Week to week her management of her penalty area and reading of the game is developing greatly and her distribution is also improving.
“Joining a settled side which has been placed in Tier 1 and is playing experienced and physically stronger sides most weeks, and becoming such a valued member of the team is an amazing achievement. This was capped with her player of the match performance versus Riverside, who are likely to be the strongest side Cumbernauld Colts will face in 2026.
“Well done Lucy. The first of many awards for you.”
