Zenith Coins Player of the Week: Haddington Athletic’s Lucas Turner

Haddington Athletic 2012s Lucas Turner has won this week’s Youth Football Scotland Player of the Week Zenith Coin.

Turner, who has had an ongoing battle with an achilles injury for over a year, showed physical and mental resilience to return and did so by scoring his side’s winning goal in the SERYFA Paladin Cup Final, which was this group of players first piece of silverware.

And Turner knows that moment will live with him for a long time.

He said: “The relief I felt when the goal went in, and how happy I was, especially when all the subs and defenders all came running up to celebrate the goal.

“I’m chuffed to have still been able to make an impact on the team when I’ve missed so many games. I love playing for Haddington as they aren’t just my team mates, they are my friends.”

Coach Andrew Jeffrey also praised Turner, saying: “He is a fantastic character within the dressing room, works incredibly hard and is a player with outstanding technical quality and mentality.

“Lucas’ journey over the last year has shown tremendous resilience. To come through injury setbacks and then score such an important goal in a cup final speaks volumes about both his mentality and quality as a footballer.

“More importantly, he is a brilliant teammate and a player who brings positivity to the environment every week.”
