Zenith Coins Player of the Week: Riley Simpson

Hibernian Community 2011s goalkeeper Riley Simpson has been awarded with this week’s Youth Football Scotland’s Player of the Week Zenith Coin.

The stopper made a stunning string of saves in his side’s 1-1 draw with Spartans, which included a penalty save AND the rebound.

Head coach Jordan Finnie believes his goalkeeper is fully deserving of the award.

Finnie said: “Riley fully deserves this award. His performances over the last few months have been outstanding and he’s played a massive part in the turnaround of this team.

He’s got everything you want in a goalkeeper at this age, he has excellent shot stopping, commanding presence, communication and a mentality to make big saves in big moments. His three consecutive penalty saves recently in big games summed him up perfectly.

We as his coaches are proud to see the development of Riley as a young goalkeeper, and both us and the lads in the team are lucky to have him. Well done Riley.”

And fellow coach Graham Brown hailed the shotstopper’s heroics which earned Hibs a point.

Brown said: “Riley almost singlehandedly kept his team in it today in our 1-1 draw with Spartans. “A bunch of fantastic saves when his team were under the cosh! A truly remarkable performance from our No. 1”

Riley has since went on to save a penalty in the next two games since winning the award, making it three games on the bounce that he has proved to be unbeatable from 12 yards.
